Next to your smile, your style is the first thing people see. What are you saying before you even open your mouth? I never really thought about this before I began design the life I really want.
When you begin to step into the direction of owning every aspect of your life and designing it to be exactly what you want, style must be considered. Why? Because, it’s part of who you are. It represents you. It’s the first thing they’ll see.
I remember complaining how people were always surprised that I had some sense in my head. It seemed when they talked to me longer than 5 minutes they’d have this epiphany. Maybe it was my low v-neck tops I wore while sporting size Gs that gave people a preconceived notion about my IQ.
What’s your story?
Do people initially think you’re:
- a nerd
- a vixen
What do you think?
Here are a 3 tips to help you step into your own personal style.
Know who you are and what you want to represent. I finally figured my personality and began to walk in it unapologetically. I am Gentle and Fierce. I crack the whip and spread the love. What do you feel? Listen? What compliments have you heard? What resonates with you? Claim it and own it. And always know we grow and evolve. So yes it can change over the years. Just own every stage in the game.
Know where you are. Yes this not only applies not to life in general or for a specific goal. It applies to your wardrobe too. Not that you know who you are and what you want to represent hod that mental image up to your wardrobe. What’s in your wardrobe that represents this? What’s in your wardrobe that doesn’t represent this? I had this amazing flower dress with amazing tulle that I loved. It felt good in it, but I didn’t feel great. it was very conflicting with my personality. It was so “sweet” and “soft” – don’t get me wrong I am those things, but I know I am “gentle” AND “FIERCE” at the same time… and fierce was missing from that out fit. Needless to say get rid of the items in your wardrobe that don’t represent you.
It must make you feel like a million bucks or throw it away. Do not and I repeat DO NOT put on those pants that you hate or that shirt you continuously tug at. It just reinforces the negative. There should be nothing in your closet that makes you feel bad. Cut the chord. End that relationship. If it doesn’t bring you joy TOSS IT. You’re better off wearing the same outfit every single day if it makes you feel like a million bucks. You’ll walk different, talk different and people will respond to you differently.
Start here and see out it goes. It’s time to own every aspect of your life. You want to be in a place where you can say #ILoveMyStyle.
