No More Resolutions…5 steps to Owning your year
How I got married in two years with my Big Girl CEO Modus Operandi.
Over the years I’ve made resolution, after resolution, after resolution. I’ve made resolutions to eat better, workout more, write a book, take more time for myself, be more open to new things, get married… and no I did not get married in the year I made that a resolution. One thing I found was once I made a resolution and put it on my bathroom mirror, that was it. Deep down inside I must have thought things would miraculously happen the way I longed for them to happen.
Resolutions are usually well intentioned. Though, a resolution without a plan was actually an immature way for me to think I could alter my life. I say it’s better to have one than not have one. However, I had to wake up and tell myself, “Grow up, put your big girl panties on and make some changes.” By no means was changing the decor of my bathroom with new stylish dry erase stenciling on my mirror the change I was looking for.
How about this year we say SCREW A RESOLUTION!! How about a plan?
The last couple of years, I have opted for planning instead of just stating a resolution. I have noticed a substantial difference in my accomplishments and how much more fulfilled I am. I’m married, I wrote a book, I toured my one woman show, I produced 2 movies, I was in a movie, I have spent more time with family, and I love myself more than ever. I didn’t accomplish these things by making another “resolution”. I did it with a plan.
THE PLAN
For all of my working life I have had the liberty to work closely with C-Level executives(CEOs, COOs, CFOs)and one thing I know for sure is they DON’T do resolutions. How would that sound, at the year-end meeting proclaiming “Okay team, we have some resolutions we would like to implement next year.” NOT! I’ll tell you first hand what I have seen:
Year-End Evaluations
Next Year Projections
Planning
Development of SOPs
Budgeting
You might ask how does this apply to me? Well start with your goal and then take it through my Boss Girl CEO Modus Operandi
Step – 1 What’s Your Goal?
Step 2 – Big Girl CEO Moda Operandi
Year-End Evaluations: What did you love about last year, what would you like more of next year, what area of your life, in reference to your goal, can be improved?
Next Years Projections(What): What does achieving this goal or the process to achieving this goal look like? What steps do you need to do to achieve this goal. Like anything else you want in life Google it, YouTube it, Read a book, Take a class, Ask a friend.
Development of SOPs(How): How will you go about implementing these steps. What steps will you need to do take in order to get closer to your goal? What is your plan? What will be your Standard Operating Procedure. This is something you will do every day/week/month.
Planning(When): Planning and developing SOPs go hand in hand. When will you start to implement your SOP. When will you have time to focus on your goal? Put it in the calendar. Schedule your year.
Budgeting: It’s best to know how much cash you will need to implement your new SOP. Both time and money should be considered. In the beginning some goals will only require time. However, in most cases you will want to assign a monetary number to classes, supplies, maintenance, etc. You would never want to be blindsided by these facts. Being blindsided can potentially cause road blocks on your journey to the life are building.
Be sure to share your plan with your “board of directors” (friends, mentors, collegues). A CEO never operates alone.
Lessons from business can help us in so many aspects of our personal lives. I hope this was helpful. I would love to hear from you. Share your Big Girl’s Moda Operandi. On our closed facebook group. I would love to hear your plan.
